Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Tour
Wilson Hall, Batavia, IL 60510
630) 840-3127

Thursday, May 23, 2002

The AEE Chicago Chapter, in conjunction with the IEEE Chicago Section, Fox Valley Sub-Section, and Joint Chapter on Engineering Management and Professional Communication invite you to a guided tour to show some of the world class research and energy management initiatives being done at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois.
  • Fermilab is a US DOE facility located about one mile north of I-88 at the Farnsworth Exit. It is located on 8 square miles of land and is home to the super-conducting Tevatron, which is the world’s most powerful accelerator probing the secrets of the sub-atomic world. Visitors can enter and leave only via Fermilab’s west gate on Farnsworth (it is actually called Kirk Road north of I-88) at Pine Street (look for the steel arch at the entrance).

  • You will get to see key facilities pertaining to operation of the accelerator, world-class cancer treatment, and the mysterious world of quantum physics where time dilation and other dimensions come into play. The tour will also take you to see the $15 million improvements made to the Central Utility Plant at no cost to the government. This is part of a much larger partnership program on site with local utility companies, which allows such investments to be paid back over time from savings. Fermilab will explain how your facility may be able to benefit from similar programs.

 6:00 pm

Welcome to Fermilab: Jane Monhart, DOE Fermi Area Manager

6:10 pm
