Professional Development Program

Professional continuing education is required for teachers, interior designers, lighting designers, architects, engineers, educators, nurses, mental health professionals, and social workers. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) measure the training for the profession registration and licenses.

AEE Certified Professionals are required to demonstrate a development of Continuing Professional Competency (CPC) as a condition for certification renewal. CPC requirements will be satisfied when course providers conduct courses which will enhance and improve a licensee’s professional skills in the area certified. Each certified professional is required to obtain Continuing Education Units (CEU) or Professional Development Hours (PDH) each renewal period. 

  • 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) equals 10 Professional Development Hour (PDHs) or 2 AEE Credits of recognize continuing education by a qualified instructor and sponsorship.  

  • AEE requires 10 AEE Credits during a three period to renew their Certified Energy Manager (CEM). One AEE Credit per year is for being employed by a company in the energy field plus another one per year for being an AEE member. AEE Officers receive one AEE Credit per year.  

  • During Energy Awareness Month, the AEE Chicago Chapter acknowledges members and organization for their professional accomplishments in the following categories energy awards during our Annual Energy banquet in October.  Awardees receives 2 AEE Credits.

    • Energy Management Executive of the Year

    • Energy Engineer of the Year 

    • Corporate Energy Management 

    • Energy Professional Development 

    • Energy Manager of the Year 

    • Energy Project of the Year  

  • AEE Chicago Chapter provides people in attendance at designated meetings one Professional Development Hour (PDH). If a person attends five designed meetings, they would receive 5 PDH or 1 AEE Credit. Our chapter website contains a the list of people that have receiving PDHs. 

  • AEE members can also receive two AEE Credits for publishing papers in professional journals.

There is no guarantee AEE Chicago Chapter Professional Development Hours will be accepted by another organization. But, we are not aware of any organization that has not accepted them. The reason is no organization can be forced in accepting another organization’s profession development hours.
